Hello world! My name is Jeff and I am new here at Poka Yoke. In addition to some other things, I will be taking on the challenge of social media and this blog. My goal is to make sure that our readers have top notch content and will get a laugh or two out of this.
Today, I start by continuing the tradition of Top 5 Friday. Be on the look out for new content though! In addition to Top 5 Friday, I’ll be having some special guests do some blogging for us, a theme week here and there, and anything that strikes my fancy.

I am a southerner. I grew up in Tennessee and spent most of my life in either Tennessee or Georgia. This map is absolutely correct. We say Coke for any generic carbonated beverage. Standard follow up question is “What kind of Coke?” Y’all are the weird ones. Read the article over at Gawker and view the results for over 100 different dialect questions Here.

Addicted to your smartphone? Well, you aren’t alone. First, you’ll see that I have a pretty substantial addiction, but a new Pew study shows that more and more Americans are using smartphones. The most interesting thing is going to see how companies are going to respond to a greater percentage of their market being connected by using smartphones. From 2007-2012 I spent a lot of time traveling around the country and Detroit, MI was one of my stops. Detroit is now on the verge of becoming the design capital of the United States. After spending over a month in Detroit, I sure hope this true. Detroit is full of good people and has a ton of pride. Read more about in the Cities section of The Atlantic (you will see this is one of my favorite publications).

Who doesn’t love a good basketball series? Game 1 of the NBA Finals was last night and this is shaping up to be a good one! Even though the Spurs eliminated my Memphis Grizzlies, it is undeniable that the best two teams in the NBA are in the finals. Just as it should be. Read more about Game 1 over at Deadspin.
